Since 2009, Henning Kagermann has served as the President of the ACAtech - National Academy of Science and Engineering. The Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, as well as the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, named Henning Kagermann as Global Representative and Advisor of the Plattform Industrie 4.0 in 2017. German physicist and businessman (born 1947)

Henning Kagermann (born 12 July 1947) is a German physicist and businessman.[1] He was the former chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer of SAP.

Early life and education

Born in Braunschweig, Kagermann studied physics in Braunschweig and Munich. He received his doctorate degree in theoretical physics in 1975 from the TU Braunschweig and was promoted to professor there in 1980.[1] He taught physics and computer science at TU Braunschweig and University of Mannheim from 1980 to 1992.

Career at SAP

Kagermann joined SAP in 1982 and was initially responsible for product development in the areas of cost accounting and controlling.[1] Together with Hasso Plattner, co-founder of SAP, he was co-chairman of the SAP Executive Board and CEO from 1998 to 2003. During that period, his responsibilities included sales, global customer relations, strategic development projects and consulting.[2]

Biography



Hasso Plattner (born 21 January 1944 in Berlin, Germany) is a German entrepreneur. He is married, has two children and lives in Schriesheim-Altenbach near Heidelberg, Germany.

Together with Dietmar Hopp, Claus Wellenreuther, Hans Werner Hector and Klaus Tschira, he is one the founders of the software giant SAP AG. He was also chairman of the board until 2003 and is currently the chairman of the supervisory board.



Commitment to education



Since his retirement from SAP, Plattner has been particularly active as a benefactor in the field of technological research. Media reports have named him one of Germany's most important private sponsors of scientific research. Plattner received his honorary doctorate in 2002 and his honorary professorship in 2004 from the University of Potsdam.
