The Chief of the Defence Force of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) Air Chief Marshal (ACM) Mark Binskin called on Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen at the Ministry of Defence this morning. ACM Binskin, who is in Singapore for his introductory visit from 30 July to 2 August 2015, also called on Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant-General Ng Chee Meng earlier after inspecting a Guard of Honour. ACM Binskin will visit the Multi-Mission Range Complex and speak to students at the Goh Keng Swee Command and Staff College as part of the Distinguished Speakers' Programme later today.

The visit by ACM Binskin underscores the close and long-standing defence relations between Singapore and Australia. The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) and the ADF share a long history of military cooperation, with extensive interactions  in bilateral and multilateral training exercises, mutual visits, professional exchanges, and the cross-attendance of professional courses. A former chief of the Australian Defence Force has been named as a special adviser to the federal government on Israel.

Retired Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin will provide advice on Israel’s response to the Israel Defence Force strikes that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom and six of her World Central Kitchen colleagues.

“ACM Binskin will engage with Israel and the Israel Defence Forces on the response to the attack which killed Zomi and her colleagues,” Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong said on Monday.

“Australia has made clear to the Israeli government our expectation and trust that this engagement will be facilitated.”

Some of the issues that will be considered include arrangements for the investigation of the incident, IDF policies and procedures for operational incidents and measures taken to hold those responsible to account.

Senior Royal Australian Air Force officer

Air Chief MarshalMark Donald Binskin, AC (born 20 March 1960) is a senior officer in the Royal Australian Air Force Reserve.[1] He served as Chief of Air Force (2008–11), Vice Chief of the Defence Force (2011–14), and Chief of the Defence Force from June 2014 until his retirement in July 2018. In February 2020 he was appointed as a Commissioner and Chairman of the Royal Commission into National Natural Disaster Arrangements. He is the current chair of the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia.

Early life

Binskin was born on 20 March 1960 in Sydney and grew up in Campbelltown, New South Wales. He attended Campbelltown Public School, and completed secondary schooling at Hurlstone Agricultural High School.[2]

Military career

Binskin joined the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in May 1978, and on completion of flying training was posted to fly A-4G Skyhawk aircraft at Naval Air Station HMAS Albatross.[3] In January 1982, he was selected as the first RAN pilot to undergo
