Eloy Rodriguez, Ph.D. is an internationally recognized professor and scientist in the fields of medicinal ethnobotany, chemical ecology, plant biology, cell biology and environmental toxicology, and zoopharmacognosy.

Dr. Rodriguez was born in Edinburg, Texas. In Texas, he obtained his B.S. at the University of Texas in 1969. Six years later at the same university, he finished graduate school with an overall Ph.D. in Phytochemistry (the science that derives chemicals based from plants) as well as Plant Biology. He further continued his education at the University of British Columbia where he received medical postdoctoral training.

Dr. Rodriguez has published two books and over 160 research publications, and he continues to give lectures worldwide. He received many awards and recognitions for his multidisciplinary research, including from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Silver Medal from the Medicinal Plant Society of Mexico, and the National Science Foundation Educational Award. Biography

Dr. Eloy Rodiguez is the James A. Perkins endowed chair in Environmental Studies and Chemical Biology at Cornell University in New York. He has published over 170 research articles on the chemistry, evolutionary biology and ecology of secondary metabolites and their medicinal and agricultural uses. He is a AAAS fellow, founding member of SACNAS and has lectured throughout the US, Europe, China and South America on the chemistry, physiological role and medicinal use of plant secondary metabolites. Dr. Rodriguez' research has been funded by NSF, NIH and private institutions.

As the James A. Perkins endowed Professor and Research Scientist at Cornell, I have devoted my professional life to the chemical biology. ecology and medicinal chemistry and toxicology of natural small molecules and glycoproteins from plants and arthropods that are important in ecological and biological interactions and human and animal health and medicine. In collaboration with Dr. Richard Wrangham at Harvard we established the discipline of zoopharmacognosy (animal self medication with plants) and Chemo-ornithology (chemical ecology of bird-inect-plant interactions) with David Rosane from CUNY. I have developed a new undergraduate course and research program on the pharmacognosy, pharmacology and nutritional biochemistry of natural substance important for the control of diabetes type 2 and breast and pancreatic cancer in underrepresented communities in the US and Mexico.
