Australia’s archery history at the Commonwealth Games

The Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games welcomed back archers and their bow and quivers to the athletes’ village when the sport made its second appearance at the Commonwealth Games.

Archery maintains the status as an optional sport in the Commonwealth Games sport programme, whereby the host nation may choose to include archery in its event program for the Games.

Indian games officials decided to include the historic sport on the event schedule given the popularity of the sport in the country, but the first and only other time archery had been included on the program was at the Brisbane 1982 Commonwealth Games.

The Brisbane events were held from 2 October to 5 October 1982 at the Murarrie Recreation Reserve, where the sport had a relatively modest Commonwealth Games debut.

Taylor Worth (born 8 January 1991) is an Australian archer competing in recurve events. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in the men's team event, a gold medal at the United States Open and at the 2008 World Youth Archery Championships in the under-18 men's team recurve event. Worth represented Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Men's Individual competition, and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio won a bronze medal alongside Alec Potts and Ryan Tyack in the men's team archery.[2] He represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics.[3]

WA Archer Taylor Worth Selected for Rio Olympics

Western Australian archer Taylor Worth has secured selection for a second Olympic campaign after being named on Australia’s three-strong men’s Archery Team for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.

The Brisbane based athlete at 25, will compete at a second Olympics, having debuted in London back in 2012, however the Busselton born eagle-eye is anticipating a very different experience in Brazil.

“Rio will be a completely different Olympic experience for me,” Worth said.

“In London I was the sole male competitor. Now with a full team it will change the whole experience. We are all shooting really well. If we are all on song on the right day then we are capable of potentially finishing on the podium.”

In 2012, Worth upset the world number one before losing a shoot-off in a later round, to end his Olympic experience in ninth.

Worth admitted his Olympic debut had been a steep learning curve.

“For London, I went in with all guns blazing without a real clue of what I was doing,” he recalle
