Biography: The eldest of the 10 sons of former Crown Prince Nayef, Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz al-Saud was appointed deputy governor of the Eastern Province in 1993. In 2003, he became Saudi ambassador to Spain, where he was involved in organising an interfaith conference conceived by King Abdullah that included Wahhabi clerics and Israeli and American rabbis and took place in Madrid in 2008.
He returned to the kingdom in 2011 as an adviser to his father, who was then second deputy prime minister. When his father was appointed crown prince later that year, Prince Saud became special adviser to him and head of the Crown Prince’s Court.
During this time, he had significant influence and continued in this role for a further six months after the death of his father and the appointment of Prince Salman as crown prince in June 2012. In January, he was appointed governor of the Eastern Province.

Prince Mohammad was born in Jeddah on Aug. 30, 1959, a son of the late Crown Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. He began his education at the Model Capital Institute in Riyadh, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1981 from the United States. Prior to joining the Ministry of Interior in 1999, he was in private business. He received advanced law enforcement and counter-terrorism training in the U.S. and the United Kingdom.
