Bengaluru, Sep 27: Well-known NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist Ronald Colaco has been chosen for the prestigious Bhartiya Mahantam Vikas Puraskar 2019-20, instituted by AsiaOne Magazine, one of Asia's leading media spread across India, Singapore, and the Middle East.
The award is the highest non-government research-based civilian award for Indians across Asia and GCC, and the only non-governmental initiative comprising jury scoring, public polling and a scientific research methodology. The journey of philanthropist Ronald Colaco is an inspirational one.
A well-known philanthropist among common, people, the needy and government officials as well, he played a key role in renovating many police stations, churches, , and school buildings which were in a bad shape.
“My father is my inspiration. There is an interesting incident that made me realise my father’s principles. This was in 1964. We had an estate at Sakleshpur. I had accompanied my father to the market there to buy groceries and other items. I, being fond of biriyani, had asked him to buy a plate of biryani for me but he told me that he did not have sufficient money and bought vegetable biryani. We happened to see a physically challenged beggar seeking alms at the Sakleshpur Bus Station. My father gave him one rupee. It made me angry because he did not buy me a meal that costs only 35 paise but he gave one rupee to a beggar,’’ Colaco recalled.

Mangaluru, Jun 14: Dr Ronald Colaco, an NRI entrepreneur and philanthropist, was honoured with the ‘Mangaluru Press Club Guest of Honour’ award at the Mangaluru Press Club on Friday, June 14.
In his acceptance speech, Dr Colaco expressed gratitude to the district journalists' union for the recognition and reminisced about his early college days in Bengaluru.
He said, "Parents often have specific colleges in mind where they wish their children to study. However, it is more about our mindset and the hard work we put in. Everyone should have a dream, but it is equally important to work hard, stay dedicated, and strive to fulfill those dreams.
"I have always believed in giving back to society. At my wedding, I made a commitment that a portion of my resources would be dedicated to helping the needy and supporting social causes. Over the past 31 years, regardless of religion, I have contributed to society because humanity comes first.
