Massimiano Bucchi, professor of Science and Technology in Society and Director of Master SCICOMM, University of Trento, has been visiting professor in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania. He is the author of several books (published in more than 20 countries) and papers in journals such as Nature, Science and PLOS. Among his books in English: Science and the Media (Routledge, 1998); Science in Society (Routledge, 2004); Beyond Technocracy (Springer, 2009; published also in Chinese, 2016); Newton’s Chicken. Science in the Kitchen (World Science, 2020); Handbook of Public Communication of Science and Technology (3rd ed. 2021, ed. with B. Trench, Routledge). From 2016 to 2019 he was editor-in-chief of the international journal Public Understanding of Science. He is at present a leading figure in the sociological community dealing with science and technology.

Massimiano Bucchi (Ph.D. Social and Political Science, European University Institute, 1997) is Full Professor of Sociology of Science and Communication, Science and Technology at the University of Trento, Italy.

He has published several books, including Science and the media (London and New York, Routledge, 1998), Science in society. An Introduction to Social Studies of Science (London and New York, Routledge, 2004), Handbook of Public Communication of Science and Technology (with B. Trench, London and New York, Routledge, 2008), Beyond Technocracy. Citizens, Politics, Technoscience (New York, Springer, 2009) and essays in international journals such as History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences, Nature, New Genetics and Society, Science and Public Understanding of Science.

He has served as advisor and evaluator for several research and policy bodies, including the US National Science Foundation, the Royal Society, the European Commission and the European Food Safety Auhority.

Massimiano Bucchi (born Arezzo, 15 May 1970) is an Italian sociologist, writer, and professor of science and technology in society at the University of Trento (Italy). His works are in the area of science in society, science communication and the social implications of technologies and innovation.

Biography

After graduating in Sociology from the University of Trento (Italy),[1] he continued his studies in the United Kingdom at the University of Sussex and in the United States at the University of Wisconsin and the University of California Berkeley. He obtained his PhD in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute.
