NENA, the little pasionaria of Spanish song

Born on the banks of the Meuse river into a family of Spanish political exiles, NENA’s rebellion was in her blood from an early age, and grew with her and her creative process. From an early age, her family affectionately nicknamed her “the little Pasionaria”. After a first group project, she felt she had to face up to her family past, and above all do it alone. Her songwriting and compositions are therefore marked by the rural Spain her grandparents had to flee, and by these migratory tears.

Her words and melancholy melodies are therefore laden with all her family’s ills. And yet, despite the nuclear bounce, she always sings through the prism of hope, the beauty of little things and sunny love.

Oscillating between Nouvelle Chanson latine, folk and flamenco rumba, she draws inspiration from the poetry of the great traditional singers (Chavela Vargas, Violeta Parra, among others) and combines her love of bare, fragile and vulnerable songs with more Iberian rhythms. 1) Nena were a German Neue Deutsche Welle band formed in West Berlin in 1981. In 1983 and 1984, their German-language song "99 Luftballons" (and its English version, "99 Red Balloons") reached number one in the singles charts of countries around the world.

The band released four studio albums: Nena (1983), Fragezeichen (1984), Feuer und Flamme (1985) and Eisbrecher (1986). With two english language albums: 99 Luftballons (1984) and It's All In The Game (1985). The band disbanded in 1987 without ever officially announcing their end.

2) Nena is the stage name of German singer and actress Gabriele Susanne Kerner (born 24 March 1960 in Hagen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany). Nena was also the name of the band with whom she released the 1984 English recording of the eponymous band's most well-known song "99 Red Balloons" (orginally released in Germany in 1983 as "99 Luftballons")

Nena acquired her nickname, which means "baby girl" in Spanish, at the age of 3 during a vacation to Spa

Nena was a West German Neue Deutsche Welle band formed in West Berlin in 1981. In 1983 and 1984, their German-language song "99 Luftballons" (and its English version, "99 Red Balloons") reached number one in the singles charts of countries around the world.

History

Formation and rise

The band was formed in 1981 when vocalist Gabriele Kerner (Nena) came to West Berlin with drummer Rolf Brendel, her boyfriend at the time.[1] There they assembled the other members of the band, which took its name from their lead singer's nickname (Spanish for "little girl"), which she had acquired as a toddler during a family holiday to Catalonia, Spain.[2]

The band wrote all of their songs themselves, typically working in pairs. They became overnight sensations in Germany when they performed their debut single "Nur geträumt" on German TV in August 1982, Nena herself wearing a distinctive
