Hon. Joyce Murray
The Honourable Joyce Murray was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Vancouver Quadra in 2008. She is the Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. She has previously served as Minister of Digital Government and as President of the Treasury Board.
Minister Murray is a dedicated community leader with a deep commitment to environmental sustainability and democratic engagement. Her federal political career follows a 25-year career building an international reforestation company and four years serving in the Cabinet of the Government of British Columbia.
Making federal government operations more environmentally friendly and efficient was a perfect fit for Minister Murray, whose entrepreneurial spirit was reinforced through her reforestation company. The company has planted almost 1.5 billion trees, including more than 500,000 that she planted herself.

Despite being Vancouver Quadra’s MP for 13 years, Joyce Murray believes there is still work to be done — specifically to address the climate crisis.
She wrote about climate change in her MBA thesis in 1992, started a reforestation and restoration business with her husband and has represented Vancouver Quadra in Ottawa for over a decade.
“I got into politics to advance the cause of taking action on climate. Why I’m running again? Well, we have more work to do on that. And I’m going to continue to be a champion for climate action, as I have been in my political career,” she said.
Climate change is an “existential crisis,” Murray said, arguing that the Liberal plan was the only credible, science-aligned platform that was fully-costed by climate experts. The plan includes a 40 to 45 per cent greenhouse gas reduction within nine years, and a promise to achieve net zero by 2050. Murray said she recognizes climate is a key concern for many students.

Vancouver Quadra is a federal electoral district in the Metro Vancouver region of British Columbia, Canada. It has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 1949. The constituency bears the name of the Spanish explorer who surveyed the area in 1775, Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra.[2] Since 2007, the riding has been represented by LiberalMPJoyce Murray, who has served in the 29th ministry under Prime Minister of CanadaJustin Trudeau.
Within the boundaries of this riding are the University of British Columbia and the western portions of the affluent West Side of Vancouver. Voters within Vancouver Quadra have tended to elect centrist candidates, which is an exception to the province as a whole where politics has tended to be more polarized.
