Robert Wright (1560–1643) was an English bishop, first holding the see of Bristol and then the see of Lichfield and Coventry. He died at an episcopal palace, under siege in the First English Civil War.

Life

Wright was born of humble parentage in St Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1560, and probably attended the refounded free school there (now St Albans School), where preference was given to poor scholars of the borough. He matriculated at Trinity College, Oxford in 1574 at the age of 14, was elected to a scholarship in 1575, and graduated as a B.A. in 1580, becoming a fellow the next year. He proceeded to obtain an M.A. in 1584, a B.D. in 1592 and a D.D. in 1597.

Robert Christopher Wright (born February 3, 1964) is tenth and current bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, serving from October 2012 to the present. He is the first African American to be elected to his position.

Biography

Wright was born on February 3, 1964, in a Catholic orphanage in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was adopted at the age of nine months by Earl C. and Charlene Wright. He served as a US Navy helicopter crew chief and as a search and rescue diver for five years. He graduated from Howard University in 1991 with a degree in History and Political Science. He then worked as a child advocate for two mayors and the Children's Defense Fund.^[1]

WRIGHT, ROBERT (1560–1643), bishop successively of Bristol and of Lichfield and Coventry, was born of humble parentage at St. Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1560. He matriculated from Trinity College, Oxford, in 1574, and was elected next year to a scholarship there. He graduated B.A. on 23 June 1580, and became a fellow on 25 May 1581, subsequently proceeding M.A. on 7 July 1584, B.D. on 6 April 1592, and D.D. on 2 July 1597.
