Il Divo (Italian pronunciation:[ilˈdiːvo]; transl. "The Star") are a multinational classical crossover vocal group. Formed in the United Kingdom in 2003, it is a male quartet that was created and then promoted by British media magnateSimon Cowell for Syco Music, a record label that he had administered.^[1]^[2] The group currently consists of Swiss tenor Urs Bühler, American tenor David Miller, French tenor Sébastien Izambard, and American baritone Steven LaBrie. It previously included Spanish baritone Carlos Marín until his death in 2021 from COVID-19 and later replacement by LaBrie on a permanent basis in 2023.

Carlos Marín Menchero (13 October 1968 – 19 December 2021) was a Spanish baritone and a member of the classical crossover group Il Divo, which has sold over 28 million records worldwide.^[1]

Early life

Born in Rüsselsheim, West Germany, and raised in Madrid, Spain, Marín started his career in music early in life, recording his first album when he was eight years old,^[2] produced by Dutch singer-songwriter and record producer Pierre Kartner. The record, named The Little Caruso, contained songs like "O Sole Mio" and "Granada". At eight years old, he sang "Granada" in front of an audience of 800 people.
